I have been photographing landscapes, seascapes, manufactured and "found" scenes for over 35 years. My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic 104, a Christmas gift from my folks when I was twelve.
During my photographic career, I have pursued mainly black and white photography and silver gelatin printmaking. I try to record the impact that light has on the shapes, lines and texture in the world around us.
I use these building blocks of visual design and include some of the elements of dominance, balance, proportion and rhythm to make photographs that convey my messages and themes. I have used many cameras and film formats from 35mm and medium format cameras to large format view cameras using up to 5x7 inch film and more recently, digital cameras.
In
the mid-1990's, I became interested in non-silver photographic
processes and
researched the origins of photography and early photographic
processes. For printing, I use the Epson® 2200 printer with UltraChrome™ inks to produce my images in beautiful and bold colours. To produce images in black and white, I am using 100% carbon pigment inks on Innova Archival Soft Textured Art papers. Using seven shades of neutral carbon pigment provides improved fade-resistance, smoothness and amazing depth for my black and white images. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with many photographic processes and to appreciate the beauty and advantages of each - both in approach and result. I have exhibited in group and solo exhibitions including the MOTH gallery in Merrickville, ON and the Mill St. Gallery in Almonte, ON.
